WHAT IS FREE TO AIR TV?
Free-to-air (FTA) are television (TV) and radio services that are broadcasted without any encryption. They are offered free of charge over-the-air by the provider. This allows any person with the appropriate receiving equipment to receive the signal and view or listen to the content without requiring a subscription or having to pay for the service.
WHAT FREE TO AIR CHANNELS CAN YOU GET?
There are hundreds of free channels available over many different satellites. The satellite you point at will determine what channels you get. Different satellites require different size dishes and different hardware. Most of these free channels are ethnic and specialty channels and will not include the channels found on Shaw Direct or Bell TV or the cable TV.
Galaxy 19 channels!
The most popular satellite carrying most of the free-to-air channels is Galaxy 19.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ACCESS THESE CHANNELS.
In short, you need a clear view of the southern sky, a 30-inch or larger dish, a Ku-band LNBF, a Free-to-air DVB receiver, and RG-6 cable to connect the receiver to the LNBF.
If you have an existing dish and receiver setup from Bell or Shaw you will NOT be able to access FTA channels. You will require a new dish & receiver.
